Are you planning a garage sale? We have cleaning and organizing tips for you!
-
In my neighborhood, you know spring is on the horizon by the telltale sign of…signs! Garage sale signs that is. I guess spending more time indoors during the winter will make anyone re-evaluate the amount of stuff they are living with.
I’m a sucker for garage sales. Having been to so many, I can tell you the thing that separates a successful garage sale from an unsuccessful one is cleanliness and organization.
Here are our top cleaning and organizing tips to help you have a successful garage sale:
- All items should be washed, cleaned or dusted to prepare for the sale. Use Pinalen® multipurpose cleaner for all your stain removal, disinfecting and deodorizing needs. This includes clothing and linens, toys, furniture and tools. Damaged, expired or severely stained items should be thrown away or recycled rather than resold.
- If possible, find user manuals for electronics and appliances, loose parts and pieces to games or toys, then secure in place with tape or put into a big box or bag to make sure they stay together during the sale.
- Use brightly colored stickers to write prices on. Avery even makes pre-printed garage sale labels that are a real time-saver. Genius!
- Grouping similar items together makes for easy navigation and shopping. How you display your items will give a better-perceived value so you can sell for a higher price. For grouping ideas and inspiration, watch this video on Garage Sale Success from The Early Show.
- Small and expensive items such as jewelry and crystal should be displayed on the cashier table.
- Cover up items you are not selling with sheets.
