What Dad Really Wants for Father’s Day – a Clean Space to Call his Own

  • It’s the mini fridge packed with sodas, snacks, and other eats. It’s the sports paraphernalia on the walls. And of course, it’s the big 50″ TV. What we’re talking about here is the undeniable décor of the man cave—that special oasis that guys escape to when they want to chill out and watch the game. But another thing that’s undeniable is that the man cave can sometimes resemble an actual cave, complete with the dirt and the smells you’d expect.

But not to fear—the man cave can actually be a great (and clean) place to kick back. Below, you’ll find some helpful tips for keeping your man cave neat, tidy, and odor-free, Father’s Day, and every day.

    Trash It

    • First things first. Although this may seem like a no brainer, you’ll want to throw away any trash that might be lying around. If you leave this job for later, chances are, throwing stuff out is going to be a distraction for when you start doing the real cleaning (such as scrubbing surfaces down with soap and water). That said, use a large garbage bag for anything non-recyclable and use a different bag for items like cans and bottles.

    The Floor

    • If the room is carpeted, go ahead and break out the vacuum cleaner. Pouring a little bit of baking soda on the floor before you vacuum can help eliminate odors. (And yes, you can use your household cleaner to remove spots from the carpet too – just be sure to test a hidden area first!)
    • If you don’t have a carpet, sweep your entire room thoroughly. Then, mop up with PINALEN MAX aromas™ and water. Remember to spend extra time on high-traffic areas (like in front of the couch).

    The Mini Fridge

    • Here’s where it gets interesting. Chances are, you’ve got some stuck on pizza residue on the inside of your mini fridge (or maybe it’s some other unidentifiable food remnant…who knows?). With an abrasive sponge and a powerful cleaner like Pinalen® with water, scrub the inside of the fridge thoroughly. Again, this might seem like a no brainer, but many people overlook the importance of cleaning the fridge. Keeping it spic and span can prevent mold from appearing and contaminating any new foods you put into it.

    The Couch

    • Yep. We’re not going to forget about the upholstery. First, take a mini vacuum or brush to weed out any food particles that might have slipped in-between your couch cushions (These may include but are not limited to cheesy puffs, cookie bits, and pretzel crumbs).
    • First, read all about the cleaning requirements of your couch before completing this step. If you’re in the clear, wipe down all surfaces of your couch with a soft sponge that’s been treated with Pinalen® and some water. Open up the windows or use a fan to make sure air is circulating in the room. Leaving the couch in a room without an adequate air exchange can lead to mildew setting in, in your couch.

    Other Surfaces

    • Depending on how soft or grainy the surface is, choose the appropriate type of sponge to make sure no damage is done (soft to abrasive). Use Pinalen® to cut through dust and dirt.

Your man-cave makeover is almost complete. As a last to-do, make sure that everything that’s not vital to the enjoyment of your hour of TV time is put away into storage boxes and the like. Once everything is in its place, your man-cave will feel more spacious and comfortable.  Oh, one more thing…

    Let’s play ball!
